Portuguese Perpetual Calendar Edition Luis Figo is a watch dedicated to the well-known Portuguese football player and IWC’s ambassador Luis Figo.

In 2009 the 19th Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie will be held from January 19 to 23 in Geneva, that is one day less than it was planned earlier.

We remind you that next year SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie), one of the main watchmaking fairs, for the first time will be held two months earlier than BaselWorld-2009. Before the dates of both watchmaking fairs overlapped and it was rather convenient for the participants and the guests.

As Autumn season is in full swing designers all over the world provide us with new trends to look as gorgeous as trees in their gold and red attire. Watchmakers make no exception. Here are three top watches of this autumn for women.

Sunrise at Your Wrist

Inspired by one of the most breathtaking natural sights in the world designers form Milus worked hard to embody it in an amazing wrist watch. In the rays of the rising Sun, raying form the centre of the dial to the frame, there are sparkling diamonds and blazing rubies decorate the lower part of it. By the way at the lower part of the dial there is a retrograde 20-seconds’ counter. The watch owes its name to this very function – Merea TriRetrograde Seconds Skeleton. The case is made of red gold and houses a self-winding movement. Water resistance is 30 meters. The watch is harmoniously supplemented with a red scate leather strap.

In Pink Haze

IWCdecided to enlarge its famous Da Vinci collection with a stylish lady’s timepiece which is able to accentuate each woman’s femininity. The delicate pink dial with a large date aperture is housed by a tonneu case decorated with diamonds and equipped with a self-winding movement. Practical and at the same time very elegant model Da Vinci Automatic skirts the wrist with a delicate pink leather strap.

Pearl Story

Bovet, paying tribute to the feminine refinement and magic fascination of sea pearls, has produced a posh model Perles embodying the image of a real lady. Delicate aureole of pearls is supplemented by sparkle of the finest diamonds decorating the frame, the crown, the buckle and golden insertions at the bracelet of the watch. Diamond hour markers are placed accurately at the guilloche mother-of-pearl dial housed by a 34-mm rose gold case. In total this masterpiece, featuring 30 meters water resistance and equipped with a quartz movement, is decorated with 110 pearls and 492 diamonds.

As you may know Zinedine Zidane, the famous football player, who finished his career in sport two years ago, became a new ambassador of IWC.

In June 2008 IWC Schaffhausen presented a new model Ingenieur Automatic Edition Zinedine Zidane. The series is limited to 1000 copies.

The watch is notable for its marked out figure 10 (the number under which Zidane played). The colour scheme of the watch corresponds to that of French tricolour. The case is quite massive: its diameter is 44 mm.

At the back case there is an engraving of the footballer and his signature. The watch houses a self-winding Calibre 80111 (28 jewels, 28800 vph) equipped with the Pellaton winding system. The power reserve is 44 hours. The IWC Ingenieur Automatic Edition Zinédine Zidane shares 120-meter water resistance and anti-magnetic protection.

The IWC timepiece was introduced by IWC CEO Georges Kern and Zinédine Zidane himself, at a special event in Paris on June 16.

There is an old developmental game for children called Associations, when they have to name as many things as possible which they associate with the given name or phenomenon. But sometimes adults find this game interesting too. So let’s play?

What things come to your mind when I say “Switzerland“? Chocolate? Banks? Maybe someone will say “cheese”or “Swiss Alps” or even “Swiss Guard”… But I’m sure that most of you will think about true Swiss watches first. And indeed Swiss art of watchmaking long ago became one of the main symbols of the country and of success, and a true Swiss watch is something everyone of us dreams of, at least sometimes…

So what can we call a true Swiss watch? Well, of course, a timepiece made by one of numerous Swiss brands. As a rule all of them are highly reputable in the world of watchmaking (and sometimes you have to pay not so much as for the watch itself as for its reputation). The symbol of this reputation is a world-known inscription “Swiss made“. To this inscription actually a separate branch of Swiss law.

The watch is called Swiss if the following conditions were observed:

· The watch is based on a Swiss made movement
· The watch was assembled in Switzerland
· The watch was certificated in one of the Swiss cantons.

Some of Swiss watches feature “Geneve” mark on them which is usually plecad under the company’s name on the dial. To have the right to be marked as a “Geneve” watch, the timepiece has to correspond to the following requirements:

· The watch must be Swiss made
· At least one of basic assembling operations must take place in the canton of Geneva

The second requirement is made conditional by the fact that 50 % from the final cost of the product goes to the canton of Geneva.

Movements that meet al the strictest requirements of watchmaking are marked with Poincon de Geneve sign or Geneva Seal and are more prestigious. Geneva Seal has been confirming the highest quality of Swiss watches for 400 years already. Geneva Seal was given an official status in 1886 when 12 technical comments on a watch movement quality were confirmed. These requirement were so strict that only graduates of watchmaking school in Geneva could make watches corresponding to them. Today the criteria of Geneva Seal are brought into account with up-to-date level of technology development. Geneva Seal is still a sign that guarantees the highest quality of the timepiece.

Patek Philippe is the only firm whose watches without any exception are marked with this highest sign of watchmaking perfection.
