Cuervo у Sobrinos manages to surprise everyone with their new watches practically every year. And this year everyone admires the new Pirata watch whose style is really difficult to define. Perfectly aesthetical combination of satin red bronze and polished red gold, matt titanium and shining steel, sapphire crystal and black plastic, Arabic and roman figures cannot be defined by any word except perhaps helpless Fusion.
So the style of Cuervo у Sobrinos cannot be classified definitely. Some call it neo-colonial, others invented vague term Caribbean Luxury. Naturally, Watches by Cuervo y Sobrinos feature both neo-colonial and Caribbean luxurious traits, but they also feature cheerfulness and almost grotesque humour characteristic of Cubans. But at the same time they comprise scrupulous Swiss aspiration for the highest quality and attention to details.
The case of Pirata, in spite of its rather massive size — 45 X 15 mm, is extremely light. This lightness was achieved due to the combination of red bronze, titanium and steel. The back case has the shape of an 8-mm titanium ring with a sapphire crystal aperture.
Skeletonized hands in the shape of swords are in perfect harmony with the highest flange made of polished red bronze. The flange in inlayed with markers made of polished steel and resemble gun cores. The central second hand made of blued steel is very long and so its end moves very close to the frame.
The Pirata watch is based on the self-winding ЕТА 2893 (28 800 bph) providing 44 hours of power reserve. Bridges and the platinum are decorated with Perlage pattern. The watch is supplemented with a 21-mm hand-made alligator leather strap with the proprietary unfolding butterfly clasp.
It’s interesting that the indices made of polished steel (look like pirate’s silver) are both Arabic and Roman – in Breguet style. In the centre there is a 24-hours GMT scale made of polished steel. Between the dancing Arabic figures there are little images of anchors. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters.And finally the pirate style of the watch is supplemented with completely unusual for a Swiss watch inscriptions 1882 Havana and Autorecargante (which means - automatic)…
