SIHH-2009 Opens in January

In 2009 the 19th Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie will be held from January 19 to 23 in Geneva, that is one day less than it was planned earlier.
We remind you that next year SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie), one of the main watchmaking fairs, for the first time will be held two months earlier than BaselWorld-2009. Before the dates of both watchmaking fairs overlapped and it was rather convenient for the participants and the guests.
At the forthcoming salon the following brands are going to present their novelties: A. Lange&Söhne, Alfred Dunhill, Audemars Piguet, Baume & Mercier, Cartier, Girard-Perregaux, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, JeanRichard, Montblanc, Officine Panerai, Parmigiani Fleurier, Piaget, Ralph Lauren, Roger Dubuis, Vacheron Constantin and Van Cleef & Arpels.

Baume and Mercier Capeland Chronograph

The Baume and Mercier Capeland is a true sports watch. The Capeland collection is an excellent alternative for someone looking for an elegant yet sporty looking watch who does not want to wear what everyone else is wearing. Baume and Mercier has been consistently improving the Capeland series over the last few years adding new features, dial colours and bezel options.
The base level Baume and Mercier Capeland Chronograph features a screw down crown and three sub dials for the seconds, minutes and hours. Baume and Mercier was careful to stay with classic dial colour combinations for the Capeland, offering a white on white, black and white, and grey dial for the men’s Capeland collection.
The diameter of the Capeland Chronograph case is 41 mm and its thickness is 16.8 mm. The bezel can be turned unidirectional and there are engravings as well as embossed scales on it for diving measurements. The dial comes with palladium finishing. The baton markers and sword-shaped central hands are luminescent in pink-gold. There is also a printed minute track at the dial. The dial is protected with a curved sapphire crystal. The crown is screwed-down with case protection and is in-between two pushers positioned at 2 and 4. This watch has a water resistant up to 200 meters deep.
Capeland Chronograph is based on the calibre BM 13750. It has been COSC certificated for its chronometer.

Classima Executive Skeleton
BAUME & MERCIER continues to replenish its collections. First it was William Baume with tourbillon and big date, and now it’s Classima’s turn.
Classima Executives Skeleton will be produced in a limited series. The watch features 42-mm stainless steel case, guilloche silver dial with appliqué indices and blued steel hands (a peculiarity of Classima). Both front and back case is protected by sapphire crystal. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters.
The movement of the watch is manually wound Unitas6498 (17 jewels) with non-central second hand. The movement is skeletonized by Soprod.

William Baume Tourbillon

William Baume Tourbillon is a worthy replenishment of the commemorative William Baume Collection by BAUME & MERCIER. This new timepiece, the first tourbillon to be offered by Baume & Mercier.
The heart of William Baume Tourbillon is a self-winding WB-T002 movement. The 18k polished rose gold case is rather big: it has 43 mm in diameter. It is equipped with sapphire crystal. The watch features a silvered dial with an intricate “Vieux Panier” guilloche pattern, and rose gold baton hour markers and hands. The hands of the watch are extremely refined. The gold-framed aperture at left reveals a flying tourbillon, which completes a revolution on its axis once every 60 seconds.
The watch features a quite unusual placement of the tourbillon aperture at 9 o’clock and a conservatory use of a separate second hand which duplicates the tourbillon’s rotation. William Baume Tourbillon is supplemented with a strap in alligator leather fitted to an 18k rose gold “ardillon” buckle. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters.
William Baume Tourbillon is produced in limited edition of 10 pieces.

Wonderful collections of the past sometimes are taken as a good background for new timepieces. Baume & Mercier has always been notable for a good ability to scent the latest fashion and tendencies that are reflected in very memorable and successful forms. One more peculiarity of Baume & Mercier is that the company manages to make each collection recognizable. For example Classima collection, that is considered to be a line of watches of classical design, features retro-style elements; and watches from Riviera collection look very sporty and modern.
Classima collection was replenished recently by two serious novelties: Executives line and XXL-size chronographs. Among them there is a chronograph with two counters keeps to traditional retro-aesthetics whose symbol is Greek letter “Phi”. The main peculiarity of the watch are three concentric circles with tachometric and telemetric scales, one of which allows to measure the distance using as basis the speed of sound. Through the transparent back cover one can see engraved letter “Phi” and the formula of the calculation of the figure “Phi”. Capitalized letter “Phi” is the symbol of perfect proportions. It became the logo of Baume & Mercier in 1964 and is traditionally placed on its timepieces. The watch is available in two variants: 42 or 36 mm case, in the latter a quartz mechanism is used.
Riviera collection was renovated as well. It was replenished by a new automatic chronograph with three counters. The case is 43 mm in diameter and features octagonal basement and twelve-angle rand. The figures at the dial are covered with a special luminescent covering. The watch is available with a sporty style vulcanized rubber strap. In the same collection there is a chronograph of smaller size (40 mm) with three counters. The case is made of steel or of steel and gold. The bracelet is made of the same materials. Specially for women the company produced the models of mini and medium sizes with the dial decorated with diamond indices. The watches are equipped with quartz mechanisms.
