Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tuxedo Collection
December 30, 2009
The new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tuxedo timepiece was first presented to the public at the watch salon in Geneva in the beginning of the year. And already then it was clear that the new watch is going to enter the list of timepieces that are remembered and admired by everyone.

And now practically a year after its release this fact was brilliantly proved: suffice it to say “Tuxedo” and in front one’s eye’s immediately appears the elegant image of this matt black watch.
Creating the Tuxedo watch manufactory of Audemars Piguet didn’t resort to complicated mechanical concepts or rare and unusual materials. Still it managed to prove that even a super-recognizable collection can acquire new looks owing to delicate but noticeable designer modifications.
We are so accustomed to the novelties from the Royal Oak Offshore collection that we started to forget the traditional image of the Royal Oak watches that are universal by design: they may be sportive, casual and even classical. The latter feature inspired the designers from Audemars Piguet to create the Tuxedo line. The watches from this collection are notable for the dial and strap covered with lacquer of deep black colour that visually reminds of a fabric for a tuxedo.
Naturally noble black dial with delicate diamond hands and indices is not in tune with the traditional big size of Royal Oak, that’s why the case was subject to changes: 8-facet rant became thinner, and the facets themselves acquired streamlined curves and hand-made polish.
The case of the new Royal Oak was made ultra-thin. It is made of white gold and set with diamonds. The heart of the watch is an automatic calibre AP 2140 or AP 2120 that is visible through the sapphire crystal aperture.
