Recently more and more watchmaking brands use their historical heritage for new watches. AUDEMARS PIGUET makes no exception. Not long ago this brand produced Chronographe Automatique Jules Audemars which is a model based on the style and design of the chronographs made by the company in the first part of the 20th century.

Offered in white or rose gold, the Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars Automatic Chronograph presents a fine mix of vintage design touches and fine horological craftsmanship.

The 18-karat gold case of this Audemars Piguet chronograph measures 41mm in diameter, and features a predominantly brushed finish which is pleasingly contrasted by highly polished elements on the bezel and upper surfaces of the lugs. Lacquered white dial with recessed subdials and black Breguet-style numerals creates an early 20th century aesthetic; shapely Stuart hands in black oxidized gold contribute further to this impression. The sapphire crystal has a slightly convex profile which merges seamlessly with the gently sloping bezel.

Jules Audemars Automatic Chronograph is based on the brand’s proprietary 3124/3841 calibre. Made up of 400 individual parts, this modular chronograph movement utilizes the 3120 base caliber which Audemars Piguet debuted in 2004. This movement’s technical characteristics include a generous 60-hour power reserve, a free-sprung variable inertia balance, and an adjustable balance bridge for optimum stability. A massive bi-directional winding rotor in 22K gold, engraved with the family crests of the Audemars and Piguet families assures efficient winding on the wrist. The many fine decorative nuances of the 3124/3841, which include perlage on the mainplate and Cotes de Geneve on the bridges, can be admired through a sapphire crystal exhibition case back.

The Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars Automatic Chronograph is supplemented with a crocodile leather strap with an 18-karat gold folding clasp whose blades form the Audemars Piguet initials. Water resistance of this model is 20 meters.

Strongbox-type case water-resistant to 100 metres, with antimagnetic system designed to protect the mechanism from any hostile element. Hexagonal socket-head screws echoing the legendary hexagonal screws of the Royal Oak Offshore models. Exclusive “Méga Tapisserie” guilloché pattern on the dial, matched on this model by the chequeredmotif on the strap perfectly integrated with the case.

The Royal Oak Offshore Survivor houses the exclusive Audemars Piguet selfwinding Calibre 3126/3840, guaranteeing sturdiness, reliability and precision rating: up to 60-hour power reserve thanks to a mainspring which, by supplying constant force over a longer time-span, ensures enhanced rating accuracy; a cross-through balance-cock reinforcing the stability of the movement; a balance-stop mechanism serving to immobilise the seconds hand and thus enabling time-setting to the nearest second; a variable-inertia balance equipped with eight inertia blocks enabling precise and stable adjustment; fast date correction with an integrated security system avoiding any risk of date disc blockage when the adjustment occurs at midnight; bidirectional automatic winding of the mainspring by means of a 22-carat gold rotor mounted on a ball-bearing mechanism.

Blackened titanium, being ultra-light material, has been chosen for the case and the surrounding elements: studs, pushpieces and pushpiece guards, crown and oversized strap buckle. The same goes for the medallion back featuring a special non-slip texture. Titanium also shows up on the lower part of the octagonal bezel, while its upper part opts for ceramics. The latter is distinguished by clearly marked vertical grooves reminiscent of the characteristic satin finish of the Royal Oak Offshore collection. The strap is made from vulcanised rubber, an indispensable part of the extreme sports universe. Its matt black granular surface accentuates the adventurous camouflage-type look of this chronograph issued in a limited edition of 1,000.

In 2009 the 19th Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie will be held from January 19 to 23 in Geneva, that is one day less than it was planned earlier.

We remind you that next year SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie), one of the main watchmaking fairs, for the first time will be held two months earlier than BaselWorld-2009. Before the dates of both watchmaking fairs overlapped and it was rather convenient for the participants and the guests.

The Haute Horlogerie fair Munichtime will be held from October 31 to November 2, 2008.

Despite of the comparatively small fair space – only 1500 square meters – its organizers claim it to be impressive.

And that’s true! Among more than 50 participants there are the most well-known and reputable watch brands. The organizers make special emphasise on the participation of RICHEMONT and SWATCH GROUP with their full complement, though the latter didn’t registrated TISSOT among the participant-brands, but SWATCH and CERTINA are here.

Other brands participating in the fair are AUDEMARS PIGUET, LVMH GROUP, GIRARD-PERREGAUX and Jorg Hysek with his new brand HD3.

I’m sure everyone of us at least for once wanted to be an owner of something unique: beauty, career or some thing as house or dress or piece of jewellery. These one-of-the-kind things make us special and somehow a little bit superior: to be a lucky owner of some things that other people don’t have always means to be unique yourself.

And now imagine that you have your own unique time in the form of something extremely sophisticated and beautiful as a unique wrist watch. It tick-tocks for you only and you feel as if you began to understand the most hidden secrets of time. Moreover such a timepiece can tell a lot positive things about the personality of its lucky owner and his tastes. It symbolizes not only success and prosperity, but also your ability to appreciate beauty, to feel the style and to be individual.

Unique wrist watches are not many in number. We can divide them into two main types: luxury complicated timepieces and extremely modern and original watches. To the first type we generally refer brand timepieces that feature classical elegant and refined appearance and super complicated movements. You can’t actually call them just watches as they are more like little pieces of art decorated with all kinds of precious materials: gold, platinum, diamonds… Sometimes it’s difficult to imagine that someone can wear such watches in their everyday life! Swiss watchmakers are real specialists in creating of this type of watches: suffice it to remember such brand names as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin or Audemars Piguet. Watches made by these companies are real masterpieces of haute horlogerie; and what makes them still more unique is that they are usually produced in a very limited number.

To the second type of unique wrist watches we can relate watches by Tokyo Flash or other up-to-date designer timepieces that feature not only unique design but also very original functions. The designs of some of them are just crazy and push the definition of how to show time. Such watches characterize their owners as original creative personalities that have their own understanding of things.

The only disadvantage of one-of-the-kind watches is that their prices are as unique as the watches themselves. But still they set trends for all the watchmakers to follow and to create original watches to meet every kind of taste and purse.
