How To Oil the Movement Without Oil
September 14, 2009
The specialists from the Swiss watchmaking company Arlanch has found the new way how to lubricate the release mechanism of the watch movement without oil. They discovered that if a layer of graphite is added on the artificial stone base friction becomes so insignificant that the use oil becomes unnecessary.

Graphite is formed on the basis of carbon atoms which form a one-layer hexagonal crystal lattice – graphene. This is the thinnest and at the same time the most durable material. Besides, graphene is a perfect lubricant.
Gabriel Arlanch, the founder of the company Arlanch, says: “Recently I have been especially interested in release wheel as the only part of the movement which could be further improved. First I thought about some mechanical solution but last year I decided that the best variant would be some covering”. In the result of cooperation with the Primateria company which studies different surfaces and coverings the watchmaker decided that the best solution is to use graphene.
