Blu Quartett
June 5, 2009
In continuation of its “musical†series of timepieces Blu unveils its new watch – Quartett. The new timepiece is first of all notable for unique modern dial interpretation featuring both date and retrograde minutes. As the elegantly slim central-second hand sweeps around the dial, the sub-hour hand at 12 o’clock is aesthetically balanced by the curve of the retrograde minutes at the bottom half of the dial.

The three-dimensional retrograde minute display forms an arc over the large date display at 6 o’clock. The minute hand is actually inclined at a 7° angle and, after completing its 120° trajectory every hour, snaps back to the zero position to begin the next.
The Blu Quartett watch is housed by a red gold, white gold or stainless steel case measuring 39 mm x 13.4 mm or 42 mm x 13.8 mm in size. Both front and back cases are protected with sapphire crystal. The multi-level dial is silvered or rhodium-plated with engine-turned guilloche engraving. Even the 10-minute indexes on the minute dial are engraved. Water resistance is 30 meters.
The new Blu timepiece accommodates a Calibre BL704 automatic movement with 21 jewels. Balance frequency is 28,800 bph. The movement provides 42 hours of power reserve.
To simplify time setting with the retrograde mechanism, Bernhard Lederer developed an innovative counter-clockwise hand-setting safeguard mechanism. When turning the crown anti-clockwise, the minute-hand remains on the “0†position while the hour-hand continues to move backwards until the desired time is reached; the precise minutes can then be set by turning the crown forwards. This simple operation allows counter-clockwise time setting without modifying the date or harming the movement.
The new Blu Quartett is accompanied with an alligator leather strap with deployant clasp.

Patek Philippe 10-Day Tourbillon Rose Gold Version
June 3, 2009
The first version of the Patek Philippe Ref. 5101P appeared six years ago. Stylish and elegant timepiece by the legendary million-watch producer – Patek Philippe - immediately conquered the capricious hearts and minds of the watch amateurs and connoisseurs. That first model was housed by a platinum rectangular case and boasted an exclusive movement with two mainspring barrels providing a 10-day power reserve. Besides, the movement was complicated with a tourbillon escapement. And now Patek Philippe unveils a new version of the legendary timepiece – this time in 18K rose gold.

The watchmaking company was working on the development of several-days power reserve for their movements since 2000 when the company introduced its first watch with the 10-day power reserve (Ref. 5100) and several models with 4, 6 and 8-day power reserve.
The new version of the Patek Philippe Ref. 5101R is equipped with a manually wound in-house movement calibre 28-20/222 which comprises 231 individual parts. The movement is equipped with two mainspring barrels for storing energy. Moreover, the movement boasts a tourbillon escapement that consists of 72 individual parts.
The new watch is housed by a refined rectangular Art Deco case crafted from 18K rose gold. The watch fits the wrist as a glove owing to its anatomically curved shape of the case equipped with convex sapphire crystal and screwed sapphire crystal case back. Water resistance is 25 meters.
The main peculiarity of the new Patek Philippe watch is its 18K gold dial with dark silvery hue. The dial reveals two bright silvery guilloche-patterned sub-dials for the seconds at 6 o’clock and the power-reserve indicator at 12 o’clock. At the dial there are inscriptions “Patek Philippe†and “Tourbillon†as well as the timepiece’s individual number. The final touch is given by the leaf-shaped hour and minute hands and applied Breguet numerals made of 18K rose gold.
The new rose gold version of the Patek Philippe Ref. 5101R 10-Day Tourbillon is coupled by a hand-stitched alligator leather strap with a rose gold prong clasp.

Carl F. Bucherer Blue Wave Collection
The renowned Swiss watch company Carl F. Bucherer presents its new collection of timepieces – Blue Wave. The collection includes 4 exclusive Patravi watches with blue dials. As usual, the new timepieces by Carl F. Bucherer are not only highly functional but also feature outstanding design and quality. The blue colour of the dials is the symbol of the sky and the sky’s reflection in water, the horizon, the desire for freedom and travel to mysterious distant countries.

The watches from the new Blue Wave collection boast reliable functions of the chronograph, the big date, the power reserve and the retrograde hours display.

The models from the Carl F. Bucherer collection - Patravi T-Graph and Patravi ChronoGrade - differ mainly in visual aspect. The watches are housed by cases of different shape. In technical aspect the timepieces are also a bit different. First of all it concerns individual complications. For example the function of power reserve is shown differently: with the Patravi T-Graph it is an arc-shaped scale with high/low display in the form of a disc is located at 6 o’clock, which turns in a clockwise direction when the watch is wound up. On this disc is a hand which also moves in a natural direction (clockwise) as the watch unwinds. The hand therefore does not behave in a retrograde fashion. This technical refinement has been integrated for the first time by Carl F. Bucherer in a unique combination with a chronograph, a big date and a barrel-shaped case in the Patravi T-Graph.
The Patravi TravelTec is another chronograph from the new collection with a strong character. The timepiece is interesting for the original interplay of case and movement and is notable for the display of three time zones simultaneously. The date display of the watch can be switched both forwards and backwards. Switching is automatic when the time is reset.
The watches from the new Blue Wave collection accommodate Carl F. Bucherer automatic calibres 1960 and 1902 with 47 and 51 jewels respectively. Both calibres provide 42 hours of power reserve. The cases of the new watches are made of stainless steel. All timepieces are 50 meters water resistant.
The Blue Wave watches go together with stainless steel bracelets or calfskin straps with folding clasps.

Dior Christal Mysterieuse
June 2, 2009
After conquering the hearts of watch amateurs with timepieces designed by John Galliano the famous fashion brand Dior enters a new level in luxury watchmaking. At Baselworld 2009 the company presented the new Dior Christal Mysterieuse watch. The timepiece is first of all notable for the eye-catching geometric design inspired by Art Deco and Cinetic Art. But at the same time the new Dior watch is not a mere adornment – the timepiece features an absolutely unique sapphire crystal movement elaborated by two talented engineers from the Quinting Manufacture. The engineers spent seven years and 10 million Swiss francs to create this mysterious movement.

The new Dior Christal Mysterieuse accommodates an extremely complicated electro-mechanical quartz movement which consists of six sapphire plates with three of them - for the date, hour and minutes – mobile, so the dial is always moving slowly. The dial is decorated with original geometric inserts of mother-of-pearl and metallization which move together with the plates so the pattern of the dial is always different. They say that the same dial pattern appears just once a month.
The new Dior watch is housed by a stainless steel case measuring 44 mm in diameter. The dial is framed with a bezel decorated with original black sapphire crystal inserts. The screw-in case back of the watch is equipped with sapphire crystal. Water resistance of the watch is 50 meters.
The watch goes together with a black alligator leather strap with a stainless steel ardillon clasp. The watch will be produced in a limited edition and will be available for sail in autumn 2009.
