The watchmaking companies continue their search for the alternative sources of energy to power the movements of clocks and watches. For example, the timepieces working on solar energy are getting more and more popular as well as those that work on kinetic energy produced by a moving person or on water.

But that is not all. Recently he designers Francesco Castiglione Morelli and Tommaso Ceschi have found a brand new source of energy for timepieces. They have created the Timeless Garden clock that works on grass. Surely, first of all this original approach will be appreciated by those who are fond of gardening. The thing is that to make the clock work the owner should plant any type of grass in special containers – the grass will grow and that will provide the clock with energy needed to work. The dial of the timepiece is placed on the outer side of this original “flower-pot”. But, frankly speaking, such a way of timekeeping is not quite appropriate for lazy owners, as grass needs care and water to guarantee the uninterrupted work of the clock.

Currently this concept causes numerous debates and, consequently, distrust of the customers, that don’t have a clear idea about the principle of work of this unusual timepiece.

Well, let’s try to understand how the clock works. During the experiments Morelli and Ceschi noticed that during the process of growth the grass is able to provoke various chemical reactions in soil. In their turn these processes can serve as the source of energy sufficient for functioning of the clock. The concept has its advantages. First, people get a new clock that can work uninterruptedly without using other sources of energy – the clock doesn’t need recharging or change of batteries. Second, the timepiece is an original element of interior design – it will make any room more attractive and will delight those who are fond of gardening.

The designers from Designplus took this into account when they decided to create a new timepiece for kitchen interior. The new clock is a set of images and hangs. The image-magnets show funny pictures of people doing different things: walking with a dog, taking shower or sleeping. Probably some will find such a way of time indication difficult to understand, but the majority will surely appreciate the original idea that allows organizing one’s individual schedule.

The only disadvantage of the clock is that it aimed mainly at adults although children would probably find it very amusing. The thing is that the set of magnet images contains some pictures that wouldn’t be clear for children. Besides, there are no images with “school time” or “fairy tale time”. L’Epee Le Duel Clock

The well-known watchmaking brand l’Epee proudly presents its new horological creation – elegant Le Duel desk clock. The novelty can make a wonderful addition to any interior owing to a clever blend of artistic freedom and cutting-edge technology that make the timepiece attractive and functional.

The original Le Duel clock shows the emblem of the brand - the two crossed swords – on the dial. But the swords are not just a mere decoration: they show that the power reserve is at maximum. Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos 566

The watchmaking company Jaeger-LeCoultre proudly presents a new timepiece. But this time it is not a sophisticated wristwatch but a clock designed by the famous talented designer Mark Newson.

The Atmos 566 clock is a beautiful timepiece made of blue baccarat crystal. The clock is powered by the new Jaeger-LeCoultre movement calibre 566 with an interesting winding system that depends on the air temperature fluctuations. It is amazing but the clock is able to work without breaks during the whole period of its lifetime – the only condition for that is the 2 degrees change of temperature every two days. Besides standard functions the clock shows the star map with constellations.

According to Mark Newson he has always considered a timepiece to be a little universe. He said: “Atmos 566 has its own sky of stars. It is a wonderful and mysterious object. Even time itself has no power over it.”

The clock will be produced by Jaeger-LeCoultre in a limited edition of 48 copies in transparent crystal and 28 pieces – in blue crystal.
