All sportsmen know that a wristwatch is a functional but sometimes not very comfortable accessory. Surely, today there are numerous models of sportive watches that can be used even in the most extreme conditions. However, the sportsmen wear the wristwatches rarely. And that doesn’t mean that they are afraid to damage the timepieces – sometimes it is not very comfortable to wear a timepiece on the wrist during some sport activity.

That’s why designers decided to introduce dramatic changes to the traditional image of a wristwatch making it possible to wear on the palm of the hand. The fastener is worthy of a special attention: the improvised bracelet is put on the palm and is fixed round the thumb. Well, some can say that this is not very comfortable, but the designers offer one more solution. The strap is made of a special very soft and thin elastic material that fits the palm tightly and at the same time is not in the way of habitual movements. Moreover, the producers of the new timepiece have introduced a set of functions that are very useful for the athletes.

So, the new Palm-watch shows the heart beat rate, provides the owner with some statistic data and other information that allows sportsmen to use the timepiece as an efficient assistant during the trainings. It should be noted that still the timepiece is not acceptable or all sports – there are some kinds of sport where even the slightest strap on the palm can disturb the sportsman. But the designers didn’t have the goal to create a timepiece for all sportsmen. So this concept should be used by the athletes for whom this way of fastening is comfortable.

It seems that after a clock that works on grass nothing can surprise us. But it turned out that still there are ideas able to surprise and interest sophisticated watch and clock connoisseurs. The idea belongs to the Chinese designers inspired by the thought that sometimes 5 minutes last longer than 5 hours, and sometimes the time flies by. The Re-clock created by Lin Cheng-Han, Chung Yu-Hsun, Cheng Yu-Ting and Chen Shaw-Chen is a perfect demonstration of inconstancy of time.

The clock is really very unusual. It doesn’t have any hands to indicate hours, minutes or seconds. The dial of the novelty is made of fabric that covers a circular basis. But in spite of the fact that there are no hands one can easily tell the time looking at the Re-clock - the numerals show through the fabric. If the dial shows numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4, it means that now is 4 a.m. If it shows numerals 9, 10, 11 and 12 - it’s 9 p.m. The minutes are indicated by the dot rotating round the inner circle.

Being a very interesting designer godsend, the Re-clock is created for those who don’t think is categories “What time is it?�, but “How much time left?� or “How much time passed?�. And, of course, the clock will be interesting for all those who think about the nature of time, about the past, present and future and about the eternal change of cycles.

Until very recently we thought that the largest clock in the world is situated in Mecca. But not long ago the Chinese claimed that very soon this title will be given to their clock created by a British company Smith of Derby in Ganchzhou. In fact, there is one slight difference that gives the Chinese clock a shade of exclusiveness – the clock in Ganchzhou will be the largest MECHANICAL clock in the world.

The weight of the Chinese clock is 10 tons and the diameter of the dial showing 7.8-meters minute hand makes up 13 meters The clock is going to decorate the 113-meters-high tower in the Harmony Park.

The hands of the timepiece are made of carbon material – it is lighter than steel (otherwise the hands would weigh 2 tons each). The hands of the giant clock weigh 70 kg each. The 4 giant dials were created by the Chinese company Yantai. The total cost of the project is $ 1.5 million.

The clock will be officially opened at the end of the month and the tower will be opened for the visitors next year.

For example, the timepieces working on solar energy are getting more and more popular as well as those that work on kinetic energy produced by a moving person or on water.

But that is not all. Recently he designers Francesco Castiglione Morelli and Tommaso Ceschi have found a brand new source of energy for timepieces. They have created the Timeless Garden clock that works on grass. Surely, first of all this original approach will be appreciated by those who are fond of gardening. The thing is that to make the clock work the owner should plant any type of grass in special containers – the grass will grow and that will provide the clock with energy needed to work. The dial of the timepiece is placed on the outer side of this original “flower-pot�. But, frankly speaking, such a way of timekeeping is not quite appropriate for lazy owners, as grass needs care and water to guarantee the uninterrupted work of the clock.

Currently this concept causes numerous debates and, consequently, distrust of the customers, that don’t have a clear idea about the principle of work of this unusual timepiece.

Well, let’s try to understand how the clock works. During the experiments Morelli and Ceschi noticed that during the process of growth the grass is able to provoke various chemical reactions in soil. In their turn these processes can serve as the source of energy sufficient for functioning of the clock. The concept has its advantages. First, people get a new clock that can work uninterruptedly without using other sources of energy – the clock doesn’t need recharging or change of batteries. Second, the timepiece is an original element of interior design – it will make any room more attractive and will delight those who are fond of gardening.

Today fridge magnets are very popular. Very often people buy them as souvenirs in countries to which they travel. Some people even collect them. And children treat them as interesting toys.
The designers from Designplus took this into account when they decided to create a new timepiece for kitchen interior. The new clock is a set of images and hangs. The image-magnets show funny pictures of people doing different things: walking with a dog, taking shower or sleeping. Probably some will find such a way of time indication difficult to understand, but the majority will surely appreciate the original idea that allows organizing one’s individual schedule.

The only disadvantage of the clock is that it aimed mainly at adults although children would probably find it very amusing. The thing is that the set of magnet images contains some pictures that wouldn’t be clear for children. Besides, there are no images with “school time� or “fairy tale time�.
