At the BaselWorld 2009 the renowned watchmaking brand TAG Heuer presents a new family of timepieces which celebrates the 40th anniversary of its legendary Monaco collection of watches. The collection presented at the show in Switzerland includes not only Tag Heuer Monaco Calibre 12 and the Monaco 1969 Original Re-Edition but also Monaco 24 Concept and Tag Heuer Monaco Calibre 12 Gulf Limited Edition.
The Calibre 12 version of the Monaco Gulf resembles its predecessor Calibre 12 in original design but features some new functions and a crystal back window. The new version was seriously upgraded: now it accommodates a TAG Heuer Calibre 12 automatic chronograph which is a high-performance all-Swiss movement based on the Dubois Depraz 2008. The new TAG Heuer watch is housed by a 39-mm case with a stylish orange and blue meteor dial design. The manufacturer claimes that the design of the timepiece was inspired by the Porsche Gulf 917K driven by Steve McQueen in Le Mans.
The next novelty - Monaco 24 concept watch features a unique tubular design and extreme shock-resistant components. This timepiece also owes its design to Le Mans endurance racecars. The watch houses a TAG Heuer Calibre 36 inside the 40.5-mm black PVD-coated case, suspended within a steel-tube housing that resembles of a race car driver’s protective cockpit cage. The new concept watch by TAG Heuer boasts a large-faced black-textured dial with big numeral “24″ at 12 o’clock, in honor of the 24 of Le Mans, and the iconic blue and orange livery of Gulf Oil.
One more new timepiece to replenish the Monaco family is the TAG Heuer Monaco 1969 Original Re-Edition. This timepiece was created to celebrate the 40th anniversary TAG Heuer Monaco collection. The blue-dial Monaco Re-Edition comes with an exclusive case back signed by Jack Heuer and engraved in honor of its legendary ambassador Steve McQueen. Other classic features include push pieces at 2 and 4 o’clock, crown at 9, counters at 9 and 3, hand-applied date window at 6 o’clock, and diamond-tipped horizontal hour indexes.
