Panchang Right Decision Watch
April 21, 2008
A small watch company BorgeauD from Glande, Switzerland, presents its new automatic watch that combines the achievements of the Swiss watch industry and a 3 thousand years’ calculation and time observation experience of the Indian calendar Panchang. The company was founded by two partners: a former finance trader Mark Aechbacher and a former journalist Chitra Subramaniam.
Besides the classical time indication BorgeauD has two counters that show the readings of the Rahu period, one of the key notions in Hindu cosmogony. Accoring to the Panchang calendar 90-minutes Rahu periods is the time when the Moon is in the position that is the most unfavourable for decision-making.
“Panchang Calendar includes several thousand years’ observations of the planets’ movement, the Moon and the Sun. In India no businessman will make a decision without consulting with the Rahu period. At this time you should wait and dedicate these 90 minutes to turning everything over in your mind,” – Chitra Subramaniam says.
The main problem with the Rahu period is that depending on the Moon movement it never takes place at the same time of the day. At the BorgeauD watch on the left there is the dial of the Rahu period, and on the right – the counter of its duration made in shape of an emptying vessel with water.
Immediately after having been launched, this watch aroused the interest in Switzerland. “That’s not surprising”, Subramaniam says. “Western watches always hurry people up and this one shows that there is always time to wait”.
