Orient. Oriented to the Sun.
November 29, 2007
The Orient company is one for the four best Japanese watchmakers. The selection of watches it makes is very diverse: form models with retrograde indicators of auto- and air-design to complicated chronographs and watches with double D/A indication. In Orient timepieces you can find tradition and innovation combined that makes the watches notable and original. One more advantage of the Orient is an optimal combination of price and quality.
At the end of 2006 new Light-Powered 4000 collection was introduced and came into market. The watches from this collection have a solar element that charges the battery powering the mechanism. «4000» in the name of the collection means move reserve, the number of hours during which the watch can work if the battery is full. For such a “reserve” it is enough to to hold the watch under bright sunlight for three hours.
Major models of this collection are as follows:
· The OCVF04001D watch is the leading model in the collection. The diameter of the case is 42 mm along the clock winder line and its height is 11 mm. The case and the cast bracelet are made of high quality stainless steel. The watch is 200 meter water resistant. Relief bezel with engraved minute indicators goes counterclockwise and proves that this clock is reliable. The dial is complicated, multilevel, made in blue and red colors. Day indicator sector and 24-hour sector are notable for silver colored appliqué.
· The OCVDAE003B is a simpler model. The case is made in popular “barrel” shape. Its 39 mm long along the clock winder line. Its height is 12 mm. Mineral convex glass. Plug-in back cover. The watch is 100 m water resistant
· The OCVDOU001D has a circular case whose diameter is 40 mm. The case and the bracelet are made of stainless steel. The bracelet is not cast, but it is made of steel sheets in such a way that the links seems to be whole. This model is very light. It has a plug-in back cover and simple winder. The watch is 50 m water resistant.
These three models are available in different variants: with leather wristlets, in case of different shape and with dials of different colors.

Richard Mille RM 012 Tourbillon
November 28, 2007
Richard Mille RM 012 has become the winner of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve 2007. The uniqueness of the model is in the idea of replacement of the traditional platinum and bridges by tubular skeleton construction. The realization of such a construction is complicated by the blow vulnerability and size change that is typical of metals at temperature changes. But all this was taken into account. Detailed specification is full of innovative materials and alloys. So the semitransparent mechanism is really impressive. The watchmakers say that they spent 2 years to work out the watch. The mechanism is supplemented with tourbillon. The Richard Mille RM 012 edition is limited: only 30 copies are available.

Japanese Classics
SEIKO watches are known worldwide as best quality Japanese timepieces which are extremely reliable and precise. These features were appreciated by many connoisseurs. SEIKO were the official timekeeper of the Olympics twice, and even James Bond once gave credit to SEIKO timepiece. SEIKO was the 1st company to produce a watch with an LCD display. The variety of watches by SEIKO is really large: such collections as Sportura and Arctura offer to customers a wide range of watches of original revolutionary design. Not long ago a new Premier collection was introduced to the public. The timepieces from this collection are made in classical design and can compete with the best Swiss made watches of medium price range.
In Premier watches both traditional and new mechanisms are used: for example mechanism Cal.7D48 that has shown itself to good advantage in watches of “sport collections”.
Three major and the most interesting models of the Premier collection are:
· SNP005P1 – autoquartz watch with large date indicator and “eternal calendar”, leap year indicator, 24-hours dial and switch indicator of the month.
· SNL041P – autoquartz chronograph with the measurement precision of 1/5 seconds and retrograde storage element for 45 minutes
· SPB005P – watch with an automatic mechanism, move range for 45 hours, manual and automatic winding mechanism with move reserve indicator. This watch is fully assembled in Japan.
All the models are notable for their original design combined with extreme reliability. The dials are multilevel; the sectors are outlined by grooves and trims made of bright metal. The dial looks like an complicated independent mechanism. But at the same time all the readings are perfectly seen. Clock winder doesn’t have a threaded fixation and this allows to make the process of correction easier. All the watches are 100 meters water resistant.
The wristlets are very good too. Owing to a special cut they tightly adjoin the case. Wristlet fastening is a spring stud that provides quick wristlet change. Cast spread out fastener with the company’s logo on it allows to take the watch off or to put it in quickly.
