Time travel

Time machine: dream or reality?
Very often we wish something could be changed, turning over the past events in our mind. Have you ever thought of time travel in this connection? It would be the most breathtaking journey in your life. People are eager to correct mistakes of the past and are so curious to know the future that they work on creation of time machine.
Time travel can be defined as a departure from a definite place and time and arrival at an earlier or later time at the same place. Time travel presupposes that the timelike ordering of events is not invariant. But this violates commonly used notions of causality. Nevertheless, is it possible to construct a time machine or is it just our fantasy?
According to scientific theory, the arrow of time flows in only one direction at any particular place. Though, some facts assert that we can travel forward or backward through time. Albert Einstein advanced the theory of relativity where he threw together time and space. He called this four-dimensional arrangement space-time. So if we can travel from one place to another, why could not we travel through time?
The results of numerous experiments proved that something weird really could happen. For example, in Montauk project probationers tried to convince that they had been in the future but the scientists considered them insane. Surely, all the tests were security-guarded and we gained access to files later.
General relativity
In the middle of the 20th century Kurt Godel ascertained that time travel in general relativity was possible. It was discovered that space-time of general relativity had the so-called ‘closed timelike curves’. The definition of a closed timelike curve is the following: it represents a world line that a person can follow and which ends at the same place and time where it starts. Besides all this, space-time has ‘holes‘ with the help of which people can travel through time.
Grandfather paradox
Let us imagine that time traveling came true and we can freely move wherever we want. Then a problem arises: we should not change anything in our past, as it will definitely influence our present and future. In other words, they call it ‘grandfather paradox’. It is a big question whether a time machine will be a secure way to see your past. Who can guarantee that we will be able to return from journey to the past safe and sound?
Our science is advanced enough to create a time machine, but still there are so many things unexplored. People have been dreaming of time travel for so long that the time will come when they will satisfy their wishes and time machine will become a regular vehicle. And are you a desperate adventurer to travel through time or do you prefer to stay where you are?

Seiko watches
April 21, 2006
The development of the Seiko watch company seems fabulous, with daring experiments, discoveries and masterpieces of watch production. The beginning was trite and simple: a Japanese entrepreneur Kintaro Hattori opened a watch shop in Tokyo. 11 years later he founded a small watch-making factory with only 10 masters.
Many years passed before Hattori’s manufacture became one of the most respectable and reliable companies in the country. Economists called it Japanese miracle. Only in 1924 K. Hattori & Co Ltd. was given the name Seiko. At this time the image of Seiko was projected – the company that amazes. Then followed invention after invention.
- they created the first mechanical watch with automatic winding mechanism in 1955;
- Seiko announces the era of quartz watches in 1969,
- the company creates the first super precise watches Twin Quartz. Their accuracy made up +/- 5 seconds in a year. In the late seventies it was considered one of the best indices.
At the beginning of 1980ies Seiko became one of the most progressive watch-making companies and its technological novelties obtained the recognition all over the world. Even James Bond, a famous movie hero of that time, left classical Rolex and replaced it by Seiko Quartz Analog and Seiko LCD Digital. It was especially spectacular because they were supplied with such fantastic frills as built-in radio transmitter, a time bomb and so on. Real Seiko novelties are not less fabulous. For example, a TV built in a clock is an incredible invention though not so useful, perhaps. In 1990ies the company released a watch with recording and computer functions.
Seiko was the first to sell diving watches for scuba divers. At the same time Seiko watchmakers created unique money-saving glass Sapphlex with sapphire coating. The coating possesses all the properties of real sapphire glass, and a lower nonfunctional layer of ordinary glass saves inputs.
The result of painstaking work is the design of the watch of the 21-century. A variant of perpetual watch mechanism is quartz watch Kinetic. There is no need to change batteries in it. The secret is that the motional energy of your hand transforms into electric one, that is why the watch will work as long as you wear it. One more model without a battery was demonstrated in 1999 in Basel. It functions owing to the use of difference between temperature of a human hand and environmental temperature.
Seiko looks to the future and uses ultra-modern materials. The latest achievement of the company is designed according to the revolutionary technology E-Ink. The peculiarity of the watch is that it is made of electronic paper. The represented watch is performed in a form of a bracelet. It is curious that time on such display can be easily seen in underlit or dark places.
Seiko watches will always be in fashion as these are the things that resemble fine wine that increases in price in course of time. Customers trust Seiko as the company proved that its watches are accurate, reliable, of high quality and simple in use.

Time Management
April 20, 2006
There is always something that we lack for and time is among such things. Our everyday routine reminds a whirlpool that never stops. We have so much work to do, so many things to keep in our mind that it is getting harder and harder to cope with this crazy rhythm.
Have you ever thought about what you spend your time on? So, there is 24 hours in a day and on average an ordinary person spends 8 hours on sleep, 8 hours on work, time for getting to work varies but may amount to several hours. And what do we have for ourselves? A few hours left for pleasure, for reading newspapers and books, for watching TV, for household chores, for going out with friends…How to manage everything so that to feel satisfied and happy? Let us try to find the way out.
At first it would be useful to determine time drain, or in other words, time that you spend on something that is not worth doing. Analyzing your own activity during a day divide time into 4 categories:
1) usefully spent time,
2) time spent with pleasure,
3) uselessly spent time,
4) time spent without pleasure.
The first two categories can be united as well as the last two because they represent two oppositions: usefulness, pleasure and vainness, nuisance.
Then let us consider aspects of our life in detail.
Work. We cannot refuse from work as it gives money, which we pay for our freedom. For example, we ask other people to do something for us and pay them for releasing us from duties: car repair, cleaning the house. The only thing that we can do with time spent on work is to reduce it owing to increase in productivity. If you learn touch system of typing you can carry out your jobs more effectively and faster. Consequently you have more time to take a break letting your eyes to relax.
Studies. It is obvious that studies are the essential part of success. The more we know and are able to do the better we work, the more we earn and so on.
News. It is important to be well informed of the latest events so that you could know what is worth paying attention to and bending every effort.
Reading. We read certain books that give us necessary knowledge or just pleasure.
Sport. Going in for sports keeps us physically attractive and helps harden our will. Do you agree?
Amusement. Surely deriving pleasure is worth mentioning as it makes our life brighter and more colorful. That is why one should not save on rest. The more efficiently you work, the higher is your salary and, hence, the better your rest is.
Speaking about uselessly spent time I would include here:
- waste of time while doing over something done in a slipshod manner;
- insignificant talks;
- watching TV too much;
- traffic jams;
- rows and disputes with somebody about a trifle.
The list can be continued.
Thus, if we reduce or better cut off time spent on trifles and unimportant things, we will have plenty of time for achieving main goals, developing ourselves and enjoy our life.
If you are determined to alter your habits you can find some useful ideas here as well.
Time, rhythm, 24 hours, time drain, waste of time, time management.

Biological clock
April 19, 2006
People, like all living creatures, possess the inner, biological clock. This clock determines when it is time to eat, to sleep, to wake up and so on. We got used to think that there are 24 hours in a day and our activity submits to the universally accepted law. However some scientists maintain that a person lacks for approximately 1 hour during a day.
Time isolation
Specialists have observed unusual phenomena while studying biorhythms of human body during time isolation. For example, a French speleologist spent more than 200 of “normal” days in a cave all alone in dark. It turned out that her days consisted of 36 hours! In other words, a day lasted 24 hours and a night – 12. And this is not the only example.
What makes our body wear out?
There are lots of theories describing what impacts our organism. It can be malnutrition, environment pollution, immunity decrease and other civilization diseases: alcoholism, drug addiction, and neuroses. On top of everything, a brand new hypothesis was put forward. According to it a person from birth is exposed to stress as he or she constantly lacks for at least one hour during a day.
The nature lives in accordance with the strict 24-hour rhythm caused by the revolution of the Earth round its axis. As a response to environmental changes all living creatures, including human beings, have their own biological clock. People have more than 300 different functions and processes controlled by biological clock.
Need for sleep
Optimal sleep duration varies from person to person. For some 4 hours of sleep is enough, like for Napoleon, others feel unsatisfied after 12 hours of sleep. It is known that women sleep one hour more than men. It is noted that people born in September are the biggest drowsy-heads, and those who are born in June sleep less.
German scientists proved that besides main, night sleep a person needs three brief respites during a day: at 9, 13 and 17 o’clock. It is enough just to slumber for 10-15 minutes, resting the head on the hands at least. Then you are fresh and cheerful again!
“Compressed spring” theory
Summarizing the results specialists made the conclusion that 25-hour rhythm dominates a human body. And in order to squash into these 24-hour frames people have to do violence to their organisms using alarm clocks and soporific.
It turns out that nature and society are always hurrying us. We try to keep pace with 24-hour world, making haste and outgoing ourselves by one hour. In other words, the state of person’s biorhythm, being forced and strained, reminds a compressed string. As soon as the pressure of imposed regime disappears, the string looses and an individual begins to live according to his or her own clock. It always happens during vacations and weekends. Any of us can say: “I slept almost 24 hours during the first day of my vacations”. No wonder, it was ascertained long ago that just after birth babies live in accordance with 25-hour rhythm and only later they adapt to 24-hour day.

Gift Watches
April 14, 2006
Sometimes we face with a problem: what to give our friends and relatives? Certainly, it should be something original, dear to heart and rememberable. There can be millions of variants, and buying a nice watch can be regarded as a rewarding idea.
Swiss watches are considered to be the best and the most prestigious gift all over the world. Choosing the right gift watch it is necessary to guess the style of the person to whom this watch will be presented. For example, in most cases a classical watch with leather strap is likely to be right for adults who wear suits and ties. Young people who go in for sport give preference to chronographs with a bracelet. Gold watch decorated with at least few brilliants will never leave indifferent any woman.
Defiant, unusual Swatch will be appropriate for a student, teaching Flik Flak - for a child. If you want the person you made a present not to wrinkle his or her forehead vainly trying to remember the brand of the watch, choose the most popular companies. Such manufacturers as Omega, Tissot, Rado, Longines will be an excellent choice.
According to Swiss laws, the watches can be called Swiss only if 3 essential requirements are fulfilled:
1) the mechanism should be Swiss, that is it should contain more than 50 % of units and components made in Switzerland.
2) the watch should be assembled in Switzerland.
3) Quality control should be carried out also in Switzerland. Only in this case clock-face and other parts of the watch can bear the world-famous inscription “Swiss made” or just “Swiss”. Non-Swiss watches are allowed to have such inscriptions as “Swiss Movement” or “Swiss Quartz” if their mechanism is Swiss, or as “Swiss Parts” if Swiss components were used while producing the watch. Very rigid requirements are imposed on using such word as “Geneva” (or “Geneve”) as it proves the high quality of the production. In spite of the fact, this inscription often appears on dials of counterfeit watches.
Usually retail price of Swiss watch is not less than 100 $, except for Swatch, Flik Flak and some other brands.
If you know exactly what functions will be of use for the person, choose a watch of the company that was the first to invent a certain function. For example, De Ville Co-Axial of the Omega watch company is the first watch with a unique co-axial escapement; or the “space” Trilogy of Ulysse Nardin is the only compound astronomical watch in the world.
To protect yourself from counterfeit, check whether there is a manufacturer’s box and a registration certificate with a trademark. It is also advisable to choose a watch from a catalogue. Representative office of the company in your country is an additional guarantee as well. This can be verified by address and phone number indication in a list of service centers. If you take into account these recommendations, you will be 90% protected from buying a fake watch. Only buying in a company store guarantees you 100% originality.
