The legendary Quai de l’Ile timepiece by Vacheron Constantin is the real symbol of the watchmaking savoir-faire and the quality service that have shaped the brand’s reputation. Now the renowned Swiss watchmaker presents a unique Quai de l’Ile watch to be auctioned at the Only Watch 2009.

The Quai de l’Ile collection was born in 2008 in recognition of the importance of the birthplace of Vacheron Constantin brand. “This collection,” says Christian Selmoni, Head of Marketing Product at Vacheron Constantin, “is a pillar of the brand together with our more classical lines such as Patrimony and Malte. We decided to create our Only Watch 09 based on this Quai de l’Ile Collection because it allows us to fit neatly into the research spirit needed when fighting against disease such as the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy”.

The case of the unique Vacheron Constantin Quai de l’Ile boasts an extremely high level of finishing, marrying satin-finished surfaces with polished angles. The case itself, middle, usually made from two or three main one or two pieces, is composed of seven separate components in a totally innovative and registered concept. The bezel, back and crown and the inner case containing the movement make up the rest of the case. The case of the new Quai de l’Ile is crafted from Tantalum and Palladium 950 and measures 41.00 x 50.50 mm. Tantalum is a metal that is used by the airspace and airplane industry, as well as in surgery.

The dial of the Quai de l’Ile is made of different layers engraved and inked with security inks such as those used by security printings experts for the production of banknotes or passports. There are other high-tech elements used in a decorative way, such as a little sun, which is metalized into the dial: under UV rays this sun glows yellow. The sun is a copy of the one on the Tour de l’Ile tower clock in the center of Geneva where Vacheron Constantin had its manufacture before moving to the Quai de l’Ile building in 1874.

The watch features a transparent sapphire crystal screwed-down case back. Water resistance is 30 meters.

The timepiece accommodates a calibre 2460H which is a 100% in-house Vacheron Constantin self-winding mechanical movement with circular finishing and bears the Geneva Hallmark. This movement, which is ruthenium-finished, features a 22K gold rotor with a ruthenium finish and five discreetly embossed fillets echoing the design on the back of the case. Number of jewels is 27. Balance frequency makes up 28,800 vph. Power reserve is approximately 43 hours.

The timepiece is accompanied with a black hand-stitched and saddle-finish square-scaled, high-shiny alligator leather strap with triple-blade palladium folding clasp decorated with polished half Maltese cross.

The watchmaker Chaumet presents its unique timepiece to be auctione at the Only Watch 2009 event in Monaco. The watch is a representative of the Chaumet’s latest Dandy range of timepieces called “Arty”. The watch is notable for the dandy style with all the aesthetic attention to details that Chaumet is famous for.

The new Chaumet Only Watch 2009 unique piece 1/1 Dandy Arty edition features a 40-mm 18K rose gold case with the Dandy tuxedo stripes across the dial and the case. The dial is black and is decorated with a sunray pattern. The dial is placed so that the crown (18k rose gold with onyx cabochon) fits comfortably in the strap.

Chaumet creative director Lionel Giraud comments: “I love the idea to be able to read the time in this way. It is so much easier and with 12 o’clock being in line with the wristband it also makes it easier to view the time.”

The dial is protected with sapphire crystal coated with anti-reflection treatment. Water resistance of the new Chaumet watches is 30 meters. The back case is crafted of 18k rose gold with polished finish and is decorated with an engraving “Chaumet Paris pour Only Watch” and “PIECE UNIQUE N°1/1”.

The Chaumet Only Watch timepiece accommodates a mechanical automatic jumping hours movement calibre CP 12V-III with hours indicated in an aperture at 9 o’clock, minutes indicated in the large dial, and seconds in a separate sub-dial. Power reserve is 40 hours.

The watch is coupled with a black patent leather strap with black satin band and black leather lining. The strap is equipped with a 18k rose gold unfolding buckle engraved “Chaumet Paris”.

The renowned watchmaking company Carl F. Bucherer announces David Vallata to be appointed new Managing Director Asia/Pacific. The representatives of the company claimed that Mr. Vallata will be responsible for distribution in Asia, as well as for the ongoing positioning of the Carl F. Bucherer in this region. David Vallata is going to take office on June 1, 2009.

David Vallata holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Studies. He worked as Junior Consultant with Credit Suisse Financial Services in Zurich, as well as in various positions with a Swiss watch brand. In 2003, he joined the Carl F. Bucherer sales team, and from 2005 to 2007 was Managing Director in Taipei, where he spearheaded the development of the affiliates in Taiwan and Japan.

Within a short space of time, Carl F. Bucherer has positioned itself exceptionally well in important Asian watch markets. This region will continue to be of high importance for the watch brand in future. The Lucerne-based company has therefore taken the strategic decision to reorganize the management of its Asian affiliate.

Mr. Vallata is also going to be responsible for strengthening the collaboration between the Swiss head office and the local affiliates and improve the exploitation of the available potential for synergy.

The famous luxury jeweller and watchmaker Bulgari celebrates the 125th anniversary of its founding with the retrospective exhibition that will be held at the prestigious Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome until September 13, 2009.

The exhibition has been entitled “Between History and Eternity: 1884-2009″ and demonstrates the most significant chapters in the history of the company and the evolution of Bulgari design, from the opening of the first shop on Via Sistina in 1884 to our present day. Together with jewelry and timepieces the exhibition offers a collection of documents that have never been seen till now, including sketches and drawings from different epochs and photographs of the famous artists, aristocrats and celebrities who have appreciated the beauty of Bulgari jewelry since the very beginning.
