Marco Lang

Marco Lang is an independent watchmaker and a member of the AHCI. He was born in 1971 in Thuringia in the family of the watchmaker. When he was four years old he moved with his parents and his sister to Dresden.

As a fifth-generation watchmaker, he could already learn by observing his father Rolf Lang who worked as head restorer in the Mathematical/Physical Cabinet, one of the world-famous collections of watches and precision mechanical instruments.

Rolf Lang suggested that his son should first learn the basics of metal working. He sent Marco to Glashütte where he for three years served as an apprentice in precision mechanic. In this important historic town, Marco was inevitably inspired by the watch-making traditions.

Marco Lange started his watchmaking career in the Ihno Fleßner, a north German watch expert company. Being an assistant, Marco Lang worked on the production of fine precision pendulum clocks. Seven years later Marco returned to Dresden with his master certificate. In Dresden he built up his own shop as a watch creator and restorer. True to the family tradition, Marco soon made his mark among German watch enthusiasts.

Marco Lang works together with Mirko Heyne who was introduced to the watchmaker as a first apprentice by his father Rolf Lang. Two kindred spirits in watchmaking Marco and Mirko teamed up and founded the watch manufacture Lang & Heyne. They wanted to make their creations more personal, more hand-crafted and more traditional. One year later, Lang and Heyne were able to present their first watches on the trade fair in Basel and within one week the order book of the little workshop was packed.

Although the success was great, it still hampered the development of the creative power of the two watchmakers. Disagreement concerning the future of the business led to the resignation of Mirko Heyne in the summer of 2002. Still, the workshop carries the name and the spirit of the two gifted watchmakers, which in the meantime became a synonym for fine watch-making in Dresden.

Marco Lang’s aim as an independent watchmaker is to inspire watch enthusiasts by his fine watches. At the end of 2003, he sold his shop in order to concentrate fully on the creation of his watches.

Marco Lang produces exclusive series of just 30 to 40 watches per year. Marco Lang actually creates his watches for himself and claims that he himself enjoys his watches more than anyone else. However, he is also happy to share his enthusiasm for the classical art of watch-making with watch enthusiasts.
