Volker Vyskocil

Volker Vyskosil is a self-taught independent German watchmaker and member of the AHCI. He was born in September 1964 in Germany. Volker Vyskocil designs and makes timepieces under his own name and also works as a consultant to realize other brands watches and to make parts for these brands.

Volker Vyskocil watches are notable for interesting design and precise complicated movements. The watchmaker himself says that he bears inside the spirit of the old masters and he tries to embody this spirit in his creations.

Volker Vyskocil says that his ideas always originate from a mixture of tradition and individual deliberation. Both are important, and both have to be well balanced. Tradition alone produces plagiarisms, and the creations of people struck in the present often miss the soul. This philosophy makes watches by Volker Vyskocil unique.

The watchmaker respects watchmaking traditions but he likes to invent something new and on his own. As he says: “It gives me a distance necessary to step outside the tradition without completely leaving it”. Volker Vyskocil believes that the character, or the essence of a watch, is significantly determined by the interaction of technique and design. An interaction which should - like a composition - follow a certain harmony in order to please the beholder.
