 Romain Gauthier was born in 1975 in Le Sentier, la Vallée de Joux: the very heart of traditional Swiss watchmaking. After studying precision mechanics he went on to gain a diploma as a constructor of precision machinery. In 1997, Gauthier started his first job as a CNC machine programmer/operator at very highly regarding horological parts manufacturer in la Vallée de Joux.
Romain Gauthier loved horology and felt an entrepreneur inside himself desperate to get out. In 1999, Gauthier started thinking about what he could do on his own in the world of watches. His first idea was to set up as a consultant to collectors advising them on the quality of movements and watches. From there Gauthier became more ambitious and thought to start his own watch brand and design his own watches using third party movements.
It took Romain Gauthier six years to make his dream come true: to propose his own watches whose parts are virtually all designed and manufactured in-house. The first collection that Romain Gauthier introduced to public was the Prestige collection that featured original in-house movements and design. The watches from this collection are notable for the elegant hand-guilloched solid-gold dial with off-center time indication. The superbly finished movements feature an innovative flat crown on the back, which is easy to wind on the wrist.
Romain Gauthier watches are a blend of the watchmaker’s passion for traditional haute horlogerie with clean contemporary design and innovative micro-engineering.
