The timepiece is an unusual and extremely rare gold and enamel fantasy watch in the shape of a Neapolitan mandolin made by an unknown master in 1830. The watch is equipped with a gilt verge movement with a scroll pierced and engraved balance cock. The timepiece boasts a concealed white enamel dial with hands and numerals as well as a sound board with cream champleve enamel with blue enamel and gold laurel leafs in the centre, the neck with black enamel stripes, the vaulted back with ribs within a panel of cream enamel and sections of engraved gold musical instruments and foliage on a blue background.
