The Swiss are famous for the ingenuity and elegance they bring to watchmaking. The success of Girard Perregaux began more than 200 years ago in Geneva. The company was founded in 1791 by a watchmaker J.F. Bautte, a talented craftsman who was known for the ultra-thin composition of his watches. The company was passed on to Jacques Bautte and Jean Samuel Rossel in 1837. However, the name Girard Perregaux would not form until 1854.
Until the launch of the Vintage 1945 Lady line, Girard Perregaux was predominantly known for watches for men. However, the Vintage 1945 Lady line successfully combined feminine colors such as translucent blue with quality materials such as luxurious diamond bezels, mother-of-pearl dials, and silk straps. Girard Perregaux had found the perfect way to complement a woman's wrist.
The company constantly strives to deliver innovative timepieces both trendy and classic. The Sport Classique Collection features a sturdier, athletic design. However, the casual element of the watches should not infer a sacrifice to quality. This collection features manually made full-skin crocodile watch bands, water-resistant composition, and anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
The mechanics behind each Girard Perregaux watch are invented by the engineers in the research and development department of the company. Very few other watchmakers create their own methods and mechanics, as most incorporate the ideas and genius of others. The skills of the Girard Perregaux engineers has been passed on for generations, and much of what goes into Girard Perregaux watches is the painstaking detail and knowledge from watchmakers 210 years ago.
