Created in 1987 Watch movements department opened for Chanel the doorway to the world of haute horlogerie. Until this time Chanel had only a small watch manufactory, where only the assembly of watches took place. Today Chanel has produced five watch collections including about 65 different models. The first collection presented in 1987 has a symbolic name - Premiere. The timepieces from this collection are notable for octagonal cases that by shape remind Place Vandome in Paris, that was Gabriel Chanel’s favourite square. The elegant dial made of black lacquer is decorated wth the Chanel’s logo only. In 1999 Chanel presented a new collection La Ronde. After octagonal Premiere, square Mademoiselle and a diamond-shaped spectacular bracelet Matelassee geometric theme continues in simple but perfect circular shape.
In 2000 when Chanel created the J12 sporty ceramic watch for men and women, it took a new road and J12 has become the symbol of an elegant wrist adornment. Having replenished J12 collection with an automatic men’s chronograph with a timekeeper certificate, in spring 2003 Chanel comes back to its favourite Fashion theme. “White line” of ceramics watches was a real summer sensation. One more watch that has become immensely popular is an original “cuff“-watch Chocolat. Being made of rectangular steel links covered with white ceramics the watch really reminds a bar of chocolate. This flexible bracelet-watch has become extremely fashionable. A special zest of this watch is practically invisible figures of the LC indicator at the four “pieces of chocolate”.
